Statement of Purpose

As a teacher, I plan to implement this classroom management plan in my classroom. It is important to have a classroom management plan in place in a classroom to ensure that my students have the best learning environment possible. I want to instill the love of learning in my students so that they are excited to come to school and learn everyday. I believe that creating a class climate that is responsive to and respectful of the learning needs of children with diverse backgrounds, interests, and performance levels.
My goal is to create a classroom environment where all of my students care about each other and all of the materials in the classroom. I want my students to learn to be responsible and have jobs around the classroom. I believe that it is important to have a structured classroom that my students will feel comfortable learning in. This classroom management plan is going to map out exactly how I plan on creating a safe and friendly environment in my classroom.

Expectations
In my classroom I plan on having certain rules in place starting on the first day right when my students arrive. On the first day of school, I plan on asking my students what rules they feel that we need in our classroom. I will be in charge of making the consequences if someone in the class breaks the rules. Once we have our list of rules completed, I will have each of my students and myself sign the sheet. By signing the sheet, we are acknowledging and agreeing to the rules we have created together as a class.
Rules
Rules that I will have posted in our classroom all year round include:
1.     We will treat everyone with kindness and respect.
2.   We will listen when someone is talking.
3.   We will follow directions the first time they are given.
4.   We will take care of our school and our classroom.
5.   We will work and play safely and quietly.
I will create fun and eye-catching posters with my rules written on them for my classroom. I will be sure to send a list of these rules home to each of my students’ parents so that they are aware of my expectations for my students.
* I have attached a copy of the posters I will hang in my room to the end of my classroom management plan.

Rewards
I believe that in order to create a happy and healthy environment in a classroom, students need to be be rewarded positively.  I will have a behavior chart in my classroom that will have 7 different levels of behavior. The levels will go in this order (from best behavior to worst behavior):
·      Super Student
·      Great Job
·      Good Choices
·      Ready to Learn
·      Think About It
·      Teacher’s Choice
·      Parent Contact
I will use individual clothes pins with each student’s name on one to keep track of my class’ behavior throughout the day. This gives me the ability to move one student at a time, and I have the ability to move the whole class if I feel they deserve it. If a student’s name is on “Super Student” at the end of the day, they will get a sticker on their “Poppin’ Behavior” chart on their desk. Once they have completed a chart, they will get a prize from the treasure box.
Another reward system that I will use in my classroom is called
*I have attached my behavior charts at the end of this classroom management plan.
Discipline Plan
While I believe that positive reinforcement is a great way to enhance learning in the classroom, I also believe that there needs to be punishments in place for when my students misbehave or break the classroom rules. On the class behavior chart, if a student gets on the color yellow or “think about it” I will give a verbal warning to the student on this color. Giving them a verbal warning means that they have one last chance to fix their behavior before I decide what their consequence will be. Once they reach the orange color or “teacher’s choice,” I will then get to decide what their consequence will be. I will most likely have them sit out of play time or work alone so they can understand that they way they have acted is unacceptable in my classroom. If a student gets to the red color or “parent contact,” I will then have to call their parents and tell them exactly what poor behavior their student has shown in my classroom. I will then talk to the parents to come up with a reasonable way to handle the situation. After every day, each of my students will return back to green, or “ready to learn.” I like to start out each day fresh with a new beginning and new opportunities for my students to excel in the classroom.
Procedural Expectations
My goal for my classroom is for my students to be in a routine. When they enter the classroom, the first thing they are supposed to do is sign in and place their name under “home lunch,” “hot lunch,” or “cold lunch” so I know who is buying lunch and who brought lunch from home. After they sign in, they are then supposed to unpack their backpack. Their folders and book bags will go in their mailbox and their lunchbox will go in the lunch bin outside the classroom. For those students who have allergies, they will keep their lunchboxes inside their backpack. Once they have unpacked, they will then complete the morning work at their seat until the announcements are heard on the loudspeaker. After we have recited the Pledge of Allegiance, my students will then place their work in the “finished work” bin and come to the rainbow carpet. We will then have our morning meeting and start our day. When my students finish any work throughout the day, they will then go to the “early finishers” section in the room and pick something else to work on. I will have a chart hanging on the wall that my students can refer to once they have completed an assignment.
*I have attached the chart at the end of the classroom management plan.
Problem Solving
I will have a rule in my classroom where if students are having a conflict, they will need to try to work it out between themselves before coming to tell a teacher. I will have the rule “ask 3 before me” for when my students have a question about an assignment. This means that they will have to ask their classmates for help or another teacher or adult before they come to me. I will also create a “tattle tale book.” If my students feel the need to tattle on a friend or a classmate, they will have to go to the “tattle tale book,” and write down what happened. This will help prevent interruptions during lessons and during learning time.
Classroom Arrangement
I feel that the way I organize my classroom is extremely important. I want to organize my desks and tables so that they will never interfere with the learning going on in the classroom. I want my classroom to be as spacious as possible because I believe that my students need a lot of room to move around while learning. If I have a class of 20 students, I would ideally place them at 4 to a table. If I have desks, I would group these desks into 5 groups of 4. I like to keep the groups small so there is less room for distraction.
I will have my reading table where I will work with small groups of students at the back of the room. I like having this table in the back of the room so I can see everything that is going on while my students are working. I will have a rainbow rug in the front of the room in front of the SmartBoard. I will make sure it is not too close to the SmartBoard so that my students will not be too tempted to touch it.
Plan Articulation
I will go over all of the classroom rules with my students on the first day of school. I will make sure to remind them of the rules for the first two weeks of school. I will also teach them their routine and how to unpack thoroughly and quickly. I will reiterate their routines and rules for the first two weeks of school so they can get used to them.
On the first day of school, I will send a letter home with my students explaining that we will be using behavior charts in my classroom. I will explain to the parents how they work and what happens if my students break rules in the classroom. I will make sure that the parents of my students know that they can always feel free to call me or email me with any questions they have regarding their child and/or my classroom procedures.
